Introduction and Why's

Hi

There are several reasons why I am taking this course. I am in need of recency credits for my next certificate renewal. I am also working on another 15 credits for pay scale advancement leading up to retirement. I am also looking for more study and experience prior to taking the MOS certification exams for Microsoft Office applications. When I receive the certifications, students in my classes will then be able to apply for weighted grades.

I’m also hoping to learn additional skills that I will be able to use during the State CTSO Conference for BPA. I deal with a great deal of contestant information from names and their contestant number to the contests they have entered to their scores and placements in the contests. Being able to compile and manipulate this data more efficiently in a database should make the task much easier.

Help Feature

It depends on the moment and what I am searching for as to whether I like the help feature, either within the application or on-line through the Microsoft site. My frustrations often lie in the fact that I don’t always choose the best key word to search on, which does not result in a hit, or a useful one. If I go to the on-line site, there is often volumes to search through to see if the answer to your question can be found.

I sometimes have better luck using the table of contents since I can usually narrow down to a broad chapter first what I am looking for. This in conjunction with the search features usually results in a better hit. Also, the more that I use the program, I become more familiar with the terminology used and this helps in narrowing the hits toward a helpful answer.

The main thing that I learned is that sometimes I can find a quicker answer easier using the office assistant rather than the Microsoft Office Help. It usually gives more specific hits of answers while Office Help gives a longer list of possible answers.
